  • Altar restoration Project

You have no doubt noticed that our sanctuary restoration project is underway. The beautiful Tiffany stained glass windows are very safe and secure I assure you. They are awaiting their new “light box” to be built of solid mahogany wood that will last long after all of us are gone. They will also be cleaned and slightly repaired.

Unfortunately, this is going to be a lengthy process that may take a year for everything to be complete. However, when something is fixed well, it often takes time to do it correctly. It’s also going to take money. When everything is said and done, between the paneling coming off, the wall behind it being restored and painted and then the light box and glass being installed, we’re probably seeing a project of upwards of $50 thousand dollars. The new altar is taken care of already since it came from a closed Bronx church, and its restoration won’t be that much.

So, if you’d like to donate money towards this project—an updating of our beautiful church—then please let us know. I’m going to personally invest my own money into it too because I love St. Francis Xavier. And even though I won’t be here forever, I do care that this church looks as majestic and dignified as it was meant to.

If you want to help, please make your donation to St. Francis Xavier Church, but please also indicate on the check or in a letter that this donation is “Restricted to Sanctuary Project. “

Anyway, it’s going to look beautiful when it’s finished but we will have to have patience. If we raise enough money though, we might be able to complete it sooner. I am also working on other fundraising efforts a for it. Our church building has been the home of so many people to come and worship God for so many decades. It deserves this attention and care. Please consider making a donation.

    God bless you,
    Fr. Sal
